Shanghai is such an interesting, multifaceted city, there´s so much to discover!
I want to devote at least one day a week to go downtown and explore the city - district by district. For my first (solo) exploration I chose TianZiFang, a quirky little arts and crafts, cafe and shopping- quarter in the Former French Concession that grew organically and authentically: Narrow alleyways dig through the original french colonial and chinese architecture like a maze of foxholes. Hundreds of artists and small business owners built their brick and mortar shops here, which attract many chinese and international visitors and tourists - and (literally on top of this) thousands of people live in the upper floors as this is still a residential area. The alleys are brimming with life, smells and sights - and i loved it ☺️. I talked to some business owners and they really seem to put their heart and soul into their crafts. Of course you still got some tourist nap-shops inbetween selling kitsch and fake cashmere and the area is on the verge of gentrification with a fancy Hay Store and a Starbucks right next to it, but there really seems to be an effort to keep it real ❤️

Shanghai ist eine superinteressante, facettenreiche Stadt - es gibt so viel zu entdecken! Ich möchte mindestens einen Tag in der Woche dafür nutzen, die Schätze dieser Metropole zu erkunden - Bezirk für Bezirk. Für meine erste (Solo-) Exploration hab ich TianZiFang ausgewaehlt, ein quirliges kleines Kuenstler-, Cafe- und Shopping-Viertel in der Franzoesischen Konzession, das organisch und authentisch gewachsen ist: Schmale Gassen bohren sich durch originale chinesische und franzoesische Kolonialarchitktur wie ein Labyrinth aus Fuchsbauten. Hunderte von Kuenstler und kleine, inhabergefuehrte Shops haben sich hier angesiedelt und ziehen jeden Tag eine Menge an chinesischen und internationalen Besuchern und Touristen an. Buchstaeblich obendrauf bevoelkern tausende Anwohner das Gebiet (in den oberen Stockwerken): TianZiFang ist seit jeher eine sehr beliebte Wohngegend. Die Gassen brummen dementsprechend vor Leben, Farben und Geruechen - das Treiben zu beobachten und sich mitreissen zu lassen ist wirklich ein grosser Spass! Ich hab mit einigen Shop-Besitzern gequatscht und sie scheinen wirklich fuer ihr Handwerk und ihre Laeden zu brennen ❤️. Natuerlich gibts zwischendrin auch ein paar Touristenfaenger, die einem Ramsch und falsches Kashmir andrehen wollen, und die Gegend ist wie alle coolen Kuenstlerviertel dieser Welt der Gefahr der Gentrifizierung ausgesetzt (nen schicken Hay Store und nen Starbucks gibts gleich nebenan), aber die Bewohner, Kuenstler und Shopbesitzer wehren sich bislang erfolgreich gegen eine Remodellierung und halten ihr Viertel echt und authentisch, und das fuehlt man hier auch ❤️
